This was my first trip to Maine. We traveled RT. 1 all the way through Maine’s coastline. We went through so many towns, but the ones that we stopped at were these:
PS: blurriness, glares, darkness, and brightness are intentional in photos! NO PHOTOSHOP/EDITING USED!
The Start Of The Trip: Thomaston, Rockland, and Camden
Thomaston:
Birch Point Beach:
Owls Head (Lighthouse and Beach):
Owls Head Beach:
This is the first town we stopped at. We found the essentials in life, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s , and Walmart. Then, we went into the wilderness and found a secluded beach called Birch Point Beach. We got there early in the morning and there was only ONE person there. Around noon, there were more people coming in, but they were all Maine residents and were very nice people. We also went to the Owls Head Lighthouse.
Rockland:
A pretty touristy town with a beautiful walkway viewing the ocean. You can see the harbor from the walk and can access a small beach with some sea glass and shells.
Camden: Sorry no pictures!
Stopped for short period time. Saw all the people. Ran
I’m not saying it is a bad town, it is very pretty and picturesque, but lots of PEOPLE. As you can see, I am an introvert. And I wear shirts that say: ” I wanna be where the people aren’t”. It is a great tourist stop! And if you are a person who loves good books and clothes for cheap there is a Goodwill in the outskirts of town.
Midway: Lamoine and Mount Desert Island (Acadia State Park)
Lamoine:
We went to Lamoine State Park and Lamoine Beach Park. The beach has amazing tidepools! Read more about this particular park and beach in a past post.
Acadia:
Porcupine Islands:
Sand Beach:
Beach After Sand Beach… Not Labeled On Map:
Beautiful state park! Sand beach was pretty with lots of people and lots of waves. We then went to a beach later on Park Loop Road that was almost completely deserted. Very pretty with some tide pools there too. Definitely, a lot more to check out next time!
Last Stops In Northern Maine: Dennysville and Calais
Dennysville: Sorry No Pictures!
We stayed at Cobscook State Park and it had a beautiful view of the lake! Very nice and friendly people there. It is a very secluded park, great for introverts! 🙂
Calais:
Sorry, No Pictures! (I had my nose in a book, not my camera) 🙂
A pretty town right near Canada with book sales! We spent most of the day at the town library sale! It is an ongoing sale that has an ongoing influx of donations. Plus, there is a new and used bookstore on the main street that has a plethora of books on every open surface! There is also a pretty walk around the river and very friendly and kind people!
On the way back: Harrington
Harrington:
Ocean Spray Cottages:
Mud flat pictures are in a previous post… Lots of info on them!
On our way back, our water pump blew… We broke down right in a gas station with an auto repair place next door! The Auto repair shop, Mclaughlin’s Garage, wasn’t open the day we broke down because it was the weekend but their parts store was. The person at the auto parts shop tried to call the mechanic to see if he’d come in but he couldn’t get ahold of him. So, we stayed where we were at the Circle K. Then we saw someone go into Maglaughlin’s garage and it was Dave the mechanic stopping over at his shop. He looked at our car to be kind and saw it was the water pump and a belt. Sadly, he couldn’t fix it that day because he was racing with his son but he was able to it on Monday. The Circle K gas station let us stay in their parking lot for the night because everything was booked everywhere. The people there looked out for us and were extremely kind and compassionate. Then, after staying overnight, we finally found a place to stay at until Monday. Cathy, the person who owns Ocean Spray Cottages picked us up and dropped us off by our car after it was repaired, she was so kind and sweet. The cottages were beautiful! Thanks to the kindness of the people in Harrington, we got home safely!
Maine is a beautiful state, please visit! I will definitely be back in the future.
